How To Join Orange Hill
Just about everyone has been a member of some organization. Most of us have been members of a sports team, a fraternal organization or of a volunteer group at some point. So, isn’t being a member of a church the same as being a member of any other organization? No, it certainly isn’t! When you join a church, you join a family. God designed you to be a part of a church family. And that's exactly what Orange Hill is intended to be. A healthy family has common beliefs, values and commitment. That's why at Orange Hill we want to share with you what we believe and where we're going.
The Bible commands that we seek membership for our encouragement, our protection, and our instruction. We desire to carry out this vision through the three step process by which people join OHBC.
|
Step 1: Membership Class All prospective members must attend our Getting to Know Orange Hill class. It is an ideal way for you to know us better and for us to know you better and your unique story. As a participant in this 8-session class you will: 1- Explore the essentials of the Christian faith.
2- Understand "what we believe" at Orange Hill regarding biblical fellowship, life and leadership in the church.
3- Examine the biblical basis for baptism (the class is preparatory for those who desire to be baptized).
Whether you are new to faith in Christ, new to Orange Hill or have been around awhile and want to learn more about these issues, this opportunity is for you. Getting to Know Orange Hill is offered twice a year on Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m.
|
Step 2: Membership Covenant The church covenant is equal parts promise, summary of expectations, ethical statement, and biblical standard. We summarize how we promise to live together in the covenant. It forms the ethics, or the moral principles, of our worldview and holds out a biblical standard by which we live. Our acceptance of this multi-faceted document follows the practice of believers throughout the centuries who have pledged to God and one another to live out the gospel in community. We require all new members to sign it before joining the church.
|
Step 3: Decision Card After the successful completion of the membership class, you will be invited to complete a “decision card”. The prospective member will complete the card indicating the manner in which you want to become a member of OHBC, either by transfer of letter, statement of faith, or baptism. (These options are explained in the class.) A time is then scheduled to introduce you to the congregation. If you want to be baptized, you’ll be informed of the next scheduled Baptism Service.
